FELIX HOUSE

“A house, simultaneously connecting with the earth and sky. The lower level, a quiet, cool, ground-hugging zone for bathing and sleeping. The upper level is airy, lofty and emphasises transparency and communality…….arranged under a lid like tilted ceiling……enjoying great coastal views……”
Julie Dillon Editor, Houses magazine, issue # 35 2003.

“It looks like a modern house designed around stone ruins………”
Kean Selway, (friend) 2002

Using simple, unadorned exterior materials, a building form complimenting the 60's fibro's and unpretentious detailing allows the Felix house to respond to the physical and social character of Torquay.

The design response is a simple shelter, a hyperbolic roof of engineering merit hovering over the dwelling, providing weather protection, a place of prospect, a home with an unpretentious, yet striking quality.

Exterior courts provide intimate garden views. The lower level has an introspective, internalised quality.

The upper level encompassing the sea views is expansive and external.. connecting the living spaces with the trees, neighbouring rooftops and constantly changing ocean vistas.
